7 DAYS RONGAI ROUTE

The Rongai Route is the only route that approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the north, near the Kenyan border. The Rongai route has low crowds and passes through remote wilderness areas. It is probably the only route where seeing wildlife in the first days is possible.

Welcome to Tanzania! You’re Tanzania African Mangu Safaris representative will meet you upon arrival at Kilimanjaro airport,short brief then transfer to the Lodge,Meetup you mountain guide for short briefing about your upcoming trek.  dinner and overnight.

Transfer from your hotel to Marangu Gate for registration and then a further transfer to the Rongai Gate (approx. 2½ hours).Meet the porters at the gate packing our supplies and luggage .There will be a flurry of activity as porters assemble gear for the trek; weighing packs to ensure they don’t exceed 20 kilograms before we start our ascent through the village of Nale Moru.It will take 3-4 hrs (7 km/4.3 m)hiking through the small winding path crosses maize fields before climbing gently through a pine forest until we reach First Cave Camp at 2,600m altitude.

The trail continues 5-6 hrs up towards Kibo, passing Second Cave (3450 m) 5 km from Simba Camp, the trail continues across the moorland and to Kikelewa Cave. During this distance you will have beautiful views of Kibo and the eastern ice fields on the crater rim as you approach near the second cave the temperature begins to drop down,dinner and overnight is located in a sheltered valley from where you can admire a spectacular sunset.

Although it is a shorter distance,4-5 hrs(6 km/4.5 m) it is steeper and the path rises exponentially. However, this part of Kilimanjaro is breathtaking. Hot lunch will be taken at Mawenzi Tarn Camp, situated beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi ridge. You will have the afternoon hike for exploring the neighboring area and acclimatization to 4500 m. Then back to camp for dinner and overnight.

Beautiful part of Rongai Route cross the “Saddle”,You will be tracking for  4-5 hrs (8-9 km/5.6m) though alpine desert that lies between Mawenzi and Kibo, you can admire amazing views of both peaks.
You will reach School hut Campsite at the foot of the Kibo crater wall where  hot lunch will be saved for you.
 Afternoon tea/coffee then you’ll have short hike higher to 4900m/16,073ft which helps to acclimatize then back to camp for early dinner around 17:30 to allow time for sleep before the final ascent at midnight or time your guide decide exactly time to start.

Your guide will advise you the best time to start as well as time to get up for light breakfast.You will put few more layers of clothes, hiking boots and head torch  then you begin your ascent for the summit(Uhuru peak) 5-6 hrs(5.6km/8 m) The first section of the trail consists of a rocky path to the Hans Meyer Cave (5150 m / 17,041ft) known as a good resting spot. Then, the path zigzags up to Gillman’s point (5681m/18,726ft) situated on the crater rim. Here the trail becomes less steep and continues along the crater rim to Stella point at 5752m / 18,876ft to Uhuru Peak – the highest point of Kilimanjaro!
After summit you will start to descent to Kibo Hut for hot lunch.After lunch keep on descending 6-7 hrs (15 km/9.3 m)to Horombo huts for resting, dinner and overnight.

 After breakfast, make your final descent across the alpine meadow, past Mandara Hut and on down through the rainforest to Marangu Gate, Meet your driver.Here you will say goodbye to our mountain staff.  It is customary to present your support team with their hard-earned tips at this point before heading to the hotel near Arusha for a farewell dinner and either overnight or a day room and late on  international departure
